How it works

From testing to top pick in three steps

We put every product through the same rigorous process before recommending it to you.

01

We test every product

Our team of curl specialists tests each product across multiple curl types and porosity levels over 4–8 weeks before writing a single word.

02

We rate honestly

No affiliate bias, no paid placements. Products are rated on hold, moisture, frizz control, value, and ease of use — full stop.

03

We match your curl type

Tell us your curl pattern and hair goals — we filter our entire review library to surface only the products that suit you.

Our story

Built by curlies, for curlies

Curly Hair Care Hub started in 2020 when our founder — tired of wasting money on products that promised definition and delivered frizz — decided to test everything herself. What began as a personal spreadsheet became the UK’s most detailed independent curly hair review site.

Today our team of six curl specialists tests over 200 products a year across all curl patterns, porosities, and budgets. We never accept payment for positive reviews. Full stop.

🧪

Independently tested

Every product in our database has been physically tested by our team, not just read about.

💰

No paid placements

Brands cannot pay to be featured. Rankings are based purely on performance scores.

🌍

All curl types

2A waves, 3B ringlets, 4C coils — we cover the full spectrum, not just looser patterns.

💬

FAQs

Common curly hair questions

For most curl types, a Denman D3 or a wet-detangling brush works best. The Denman clumps curls and defines waves, while detangling brushes (like Tangle Teezer or Felicia Leatherwood) are gentler for denser, more fragile coils. See our full brush comparison for your curl pattern.

Most curly hair types benefit from washing every 5–7 days. Washing too frequently strips natural oils that curls rely on for definition and moisture. Co-washing (conditioner-only washing) between shampoo days can help maintain hydration without stripping.

The Curly Girl Method (CGM) is a hair-care approach popularised by Lorraine Massey that avoids sulphates, silicones, and heat styling. It emphasises moisture-rich products, gentle cleansing, and scrunching rather than brushing. It works best for 2B–4C curl types.

Frizz is usually caused by lack of moisture or mechanical damage. Key fixes: apply products on soaking-wet hair, use a microfibre towel or cotton T-shirt to dry, sleep on satin, and seal your routine with a gel or custard to lock moisture in.

Let your hair air-dry without any products. The natural shape it forms — from gentle waves (2A) through ringlets (3A–3C) to tight coils (4A–4C) — reveals your curl pattern. Many people have mixed patterns. Our blog has a full photographic curl-type guide.
